The King County Prayer Breakfast

Praying for the CIty, County and Nation

“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” — Jeremiah 29:7

As we prepare for the King County Prayer Breakfast, God is giving us a unique moment. Our region—especially Seattle—is about to welcome the nations through the FIFA World Cup 2026. This is more than a sporting event. It is a spiritual opportunity. Scripture reminds us that God cares deeply about cities. From Nineveh to Jerusalem to the cities Paul visited, the Lord moves powerfully when His people pray intentionally for their region.

1. God Positions Cities for Kingdom Purpose

Seattle is known globally for innovation, culture, and influence. But God sees something even deeper—He sees hearts. Throughout Scripture, major gatherings of people often preceded spiritual movement (Acts 2 at Pentecost is a perfect example). When the world comes to our doorstep, the Church must recognize the moment.

When God brings the nations near, He is inviting His people to pray with expectation.

2. Prayer Prepares the Spiritual Atmosphere

Before crowds arrive…

Before matches begin…

Before visitors step off planes…

Prayer goes first. We are not just planning an event—we are stewarding an atmosphere. When believers unite in prayer: Strongholds weaken, Hearts soften, Divine appointments increase. The Church becomes more visible and effective Jeremiah didn’t tell God’s people to complain about their city. He told them to pray for its peace and flourishing.

3. A World Cup Moment Is a Great Commission Moment

Jesus said in Matthew 28 to make disciples of all nations. For a brief season, many of those nations will be represented right here in our region. Think about the opportunity:

Visitors searching for hope, Workers under pressure, Security personnel needing wisdom, Local businesses interacting with the world, Churches positioned for outreach, We don’t have to go to the nations—the nations are coming to us.

4. How We Can Pray Specifically

As a planning team, we can begin covering this moment now. Pray for Seattle:, Peace and public safety, Unity among churches, Favor with civic leaders, Protection over infrastructure and events. Pray for the World Cup season: Divine encounters for visitors, Open doors for ministry, Hospitality that reflects Christ, Revival among young people and families, Pray for the Prayer Breakfast: Clear vision, Strong spiritual unity, God’s presence to mark the gathering, Lasting fruit beyond the event, Closing Encouragement, Family, God often works ahead of history through praying people.

What if this upcoming season becomes known not just for great soccer…

…but for a fresh move of God in our region?

The Lord is inviting us to stand in the gap for our city.

 Closing Prayer

“Father, we lift up Seattle and the greater King County region to You. We ask for Your peace, Your protection, and Your presence to rest on our city. As the nations come during the World Cup, prepare hearts, open doors for the gospel, and unite Your Church in love and boldness. Bless every step of the King County Prayer Breakfast planning team. Let this be a season of spiritual awakening in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
